Love is backwards

I think it's safe to say Cupid and I never really got along. You would think that as Valentine's Day comes and goes every year one would have alot of good memories of the times past and crushes that actually amounted to something. Mine are few.

Grade School- I think this was really the only time Valentine's Day was fun. Every year your teacher would have you decorate your own little envelope to hang up in the room, then Valentine's day would come and everyone would deliver there Valentine's to there classmates. This was when times were good and kids traded valentines, not bullets. I still remember always having that anticipation of getting one of those "good valentines," kind of like a scratch off lottery ticket, you don't know what to expect, but you hope you picked a winner. I can't remember how many winners I had, but I was young and didn't have a care in the world at this point.

Middle School- I think this was where Cupid decided he no longer liked me. The only memory I have is the 7th grade. I started dating this girl at the beginning of the week, right before the big Valentine's Day dance. I was excited, who wouldn't be, I actually had a girlfriend at the time when everyone wishes they had one. On top of that, she wrote me a note saying she wanted to go to 3rd base at the dance. Sure we weren't together that long, but hey, it was Valentine's day. So I go to the dance as happy as any 7th grader expecting to "get some" would, and thats where the happiness would end. I walked through the doors only to be greeted by one of her friends that kindly hands me a card and proceeds to tell me that the girl that I thought I was going to 3rd with wants to break up with me. No 3rd base, not even a hug.

From then on, I really haven't enjoyed this day. There has been a few Valentine days since then, where I traded gifts with signigant others and shared some good times. When I was in college, I had met this girl over the internet. She lived in Jersey, and after many nights and hours on end of talking over Instant messenger she came to visit me the wknd after Valentines Day, I had made her a mix cd and she bought me a belt and a T-shirt. We had a good time and dated for a few months after that, the distance eventually put an end to it all. Then after college I had a long term girlfriend that I spent a few Valentine Days with which were fun. She treated me as well as any guy could have asked to be treated. We're no longer together but managed to stay good friends through it all.

All that aside, I'm the bitter single guy this year and will spend the day doing laundry or something that people usually do by themselves.

(you're a fuckin' pervert...I know what you are thinking)

Send that special someone a card
